It has been three months since Francis Ngannou bid farewell to the UFC. While the Cameroonian has been linked to several high-profile boxers like Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder for his dream boxing debut, nothing has been confirmed as yet. With his future unknown, Chael Sonnen believes it’s time Ngannou swallowed his pride and called UFC president Dana White.
Chael Sonnen’s advice for Francis Ngannou
‘The Predator’ exited the UFC earlier this year after a drawn-out contract renegotiation battle with the promotion. Since parting ways, Ngannou and White have both ruled out any chance of a reunion in the future. However, with the former UFC heavyweight champion’s future in limbo, there could be a change of heart on both sides.
In a recent interview with MMA Junkie, former UFC middleweight Chael Sonnen weighed in on Francis Ngannou’s options and opined that the Cameroonian should reconcile with the UFC and Dana White:
“Let me put this in perspective for you… Tyson Fury put out an April 1 joke on social media that he and Francis was done, and they are fighting in Wembley on May 15. Tyson Fury made a joke. Francis has changed his whole life… Because he thought he was going to make up a sport and do it with a guy who is now using it as an April Fool’s joke… He has to wake up, and he needs to call back his boss.”
Potential for Ngannou to join the Professional Fighters League
As Francis Ngannou continues to search for a new fighting home, the Professional Fighters League (PFL) has emerged as a potential destination for the Cameroonian. In a recent interview with MMA Junkie, PFL president Ray Sefo opened up about the possibility of signing the former UFC heavyweight champion:
“That is correct, we have had a few meetings with Francis, and those discussions are still going on. Obviously, there’s a few other things he also wants to pursue, which is boxing and he knows where we stand with it too, so, you know, it’s all positive, should I say, right?”
