American television host Jimmy Kimmel once asked a bizarre question to Floyd Mayweather about Conor McGregor, leaving him confused and unsure how to respond. Mayweather appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live on August 16, 2017, a week before his fight against McGregor. Kimmel asked Mayweather if he had gained any affection for the Irishman, recalling his own experience fighting on the playground and developing feelings for his opponent afterward. He even went as far as asking Mayweather, “Will you make love to Conor McGregor?”
Clearly taken aback, Mayweather shook his head and stated that he absolutely wasn’t thinking about McGregor in that way. Despite the awkwardness of the question, ‘Pretty Boy’ was able to focus on the fight a week later, ultimately defeating ‘Notorious’ in the 10th round by TKO. The highly anticipated fight, dubbed ‘The Money Fight,’ became the second biggest boxing pay-per-view in history, with a reported 4.3 million PPV buys. Mayweather vs. McGregor ranks only behind Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao, which drew 4.6 million buys.
In other news, Michael Chandler, a mixed martial artist, recently commented on the possibility that Conor McGregor used steroids during his recovery from a freak leg break in 2021. McGregor’s injury happened during a trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier and required immediate surgery. Fans have speculated that McGregor used performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) to aid in his recovery since he was out of USADA’s testing pool at the time.
Chandler spoke with TMZ Sports about whether or not he had concerns about facing an opponent who may have used PEDs, stating, “Not really, you know I mean everybody is on their own journey and everybody has their different ways that they would do things. Obviously, I’ve always looked at what you’re alluding to [Conor McGregor taking PEDs] as a crutch.” He went on to explain that if someone resorted to PEDs, it would be more of a mental hurdle for them to overcome than anything else.
