Tom Aspinall Ready for Unification Bout with Stipe Miocic After Possible Jon Jones Victory

Tom Aspinall recently challenged Jon Jones for a match, but as it turns out, Jones is more focused on his upcoming bout with Stipe Miocic. This doesn’t sit well with Aspinall, who has been vocal about wanting to take on Jones. When Miocic heard about this, he responded positively to the challenge, stating that he’s willing to face Aspinall after his fight with Jones. However, Aspinall took to Twitter to question the logic of Miocic’s offer, asking, “Why wait? Ready when you are boss.”

One of Aspinall’s main arguments is Miocic’s age and how that might factor into his decision. If Miocic has to wait until Jones recovers from his recent pectoral tear, he’ll be 42 years old and possibly in physical decline. Aspinall, in the meantime, is waiting as the interim heavyweight champion for a chance to face Jones and unify the titles. However, Jones hasn’t expressed much interest in facing the English fighter.

This isn’t the first time Aspinall has faced a potential opponent unwilling to face him. He previously challenged former interim heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane following Gane’s victory against Marcin Tybura, but Gane dismissed the possibility of that match in favor of a rematch with Jones. Aspinall’s subsequent interim championship win over Sergei Pavlovich seemed to change Gane’s tune, but it was Aspinall’s turn to turn him down.

Tom Aspinall’s time in the UFC has been quite successful so far. Since joining the promotion in July 2020, he has made quite a splash in the heavyweight division, earning five consecutive stoppage wins–three TKOs and two submissions. His most notable match was against Curtis Blaydes, which unfortunately ended in the first round with a ligament injury to Aspinall.

Despite his injury, Aspinall returned to the octagon and managed to secure a two-fight win streak, including a first-round knockout over Sergei Pavlovich to claim the UFC interim heavyweight championship title. It remains to be seen whether his relentless pursuit of a match against Jones will eventually come to fruition.
