Tom Aspinall Responds to Jon Jones’ Ego & ‘King of England’ Jibe by Comparing Their Résumés

UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones and interim titleholder Tom Aspinall have engaged in a verbal spat on social media platform X, which was previously known as Twitter. Aspinall has been repeatedly calling for a title unification matchup, but Jones appears more interested in facing former two-time heavyweight kingpin Stipe Miocic. In response to the English fighter, Jones claimed that Aspinall’s résumé falls significantly short of his own, stating that he has been a main event fighter throughout his entire career.

In a post on the platform, Jones wrote, “I mean, it doesn’t really work like that. I was a champion when I was 23 years old, you can’t show up at age 30 pretending like you’ve been chasing me your whole life. I have no clue who 90% of his résumé is, meanwhile, I’ve been highlighting UFC events my entire career.” Aspinall quickly responded to Jones’s comment, respectfully acknowledging his superior professional record and citing it as the main reason he wants to take on the legendary fighter.

Aspinall posted his response, stating, “Jon you’re letting your ego run wild here mate. I’m not downplaying your résumé, it’s incredible. Far superior to mine. You are known as the best fighter ever, and that’s EXACTLY why I want to beat you. Surely you can understand that?”

In other UFC news, Jon Jones has been on the sidelines since his withdrawal from the scheduled UFC 295 main event against Stipe Miocic. During this period, Jones has been focusing on recovering from his various injuries, including his hurt pec. Additionally, he underwent elbow surgery on his left arm to address a lingering issue he had been dealing with for some time.

Jones mentioned that going under the knife again made sense since he is already out for months due to his pec surgery. He commented, “The good news is it’s about a 10-week healing process, and I’m out for months anyway because of this pec surgery, so I thought I’d just kill two birds and get this elbow taken care of once and for all.”
