UFC Lightweight Responds to Jorge Masvidal’s ‘Chopping Up’ Justin Gaethje Claim with CTE Concerns

In the realm of UFC lightweight fighters, Drakkar Klose has offered his perspective on Jorge Masvidal’s recent remarks about a possible BMF title fight with Justin Gaethje. Gaethje, known as ‘The Highlight’, claimed the symbolic BMF title at UFC 291 after delivering a remarkable head kick that took down Dustin Poirier in the second round. He is now preparing to defend this title and his BMF status in what is anticipated to be an epic clash with Max Holloway at UFC 300, a bout that’s already generating buzz as a potential Fight of the Year.

Despite the excitement surrounding the matchup from fans and MMA commentators alike, Masvidal has expressed a different sentiment. The fighter, who retired in 2023, believes that he should be the one stepping into the octagon against Gaethje. In an interview with Lowkick MMA, Masvidal confidently predicted a decisive victory for himself should the fight occur, stating, “If you put BMF against BMF, if you put me against Gaethje in there, I would break his f*cking eye orbital, and I would f*cking chop him up. Hopefully, that can happen at some point.”

Masvidal’s bold claims have not gone without criticism, drawing reactions from fans and fellow fighters. Drakkar Klose, in particular, took to Instagram to comment on Masvidal’s statement, suggesting that Masvidal’s words are indicative of someone dealing with the repercussions of a fighting career. Klose succinctly responded to the post with the acronym “CTE,” implying that Masvidal may be experiencing chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a brain condition associated with repeated head injuries.

In another instance, Masvidal has been outspoken about Colby Covington’s attribution of his loss to Leon Edwards to his political affiliations. Covington, who had been out of the ring for nearly two years, faced Edwards at UFC 296 and promised a dominant performance. However, the fight did not go as planned for ‘Chaos’, as he was thoroughly outperformed by Edwards, leading to a unanimous decision in favor of Edwards across all judges’ scorecards. Covington later suggested that his support for Donald Trump and his Republican views influenced the judges’ decision against him. Masvidal, in a conversation with BroBible, condemned Covington for involving Trump’s name and for blaming his defeat on the former president, calling Covington a “f*cking piece of sh*t” for his excuses.
