Despite the excitement surrounding the matchup from fans and MMA commentators alike, Masvidal has expressed a different sentiment. The fighter, who retired in 2023, believes that he should be the one stepping into the octagon against Gaethje. In an interview with Lowkick MMA, Masvidal confidently predicted a decisive victory for himself should the fight occur, stating, “If you put BMF against BMF, if you put me against Gaethje in there, I would break his f*cking eye orbital, and I would f*cking chop him up. Hopefully, that can happen at some point.”

Drakkar Klose, in particular, took to Instagram to comment on Masvidal’s statement, suggesting that Masvidal’s words are indicative of someone dealing with the repercussions of a fighting career. However, the fight did not go as planned for ‘Chaos’, as he was thoroughly outperformed by Edwards, leading to a unanimous decision in favor of Edwards across all judges’ scorecards. Covington later suggested that his support for Donald Trump and his Republican views influenced the judges’ decision against him.
