Molly McCann recently shared an inspiring post on social media about her time spent with injured mixed martial artist Ryan Curtis. Curtis, who has previously fought in Bellator, suffered a devastating and life-changing spinal injury while training. Earlier this month, featherweight contender Leah McCourt provided an update on the incident, stating that Ryan endured injuries to his back, neck, and spine. She described that Curtis had experienced the most severe damage that can be done to a spinal cord and received emergency surgery at the Royal in Belfast.
In light of this tragic event, McCourt’s statement included a GoFundMe link that has so far raised over £120,000 to help Curtis and his family. McCann, also known as ‘Meatball,’ recently visited Curtis in the hospital and was deeply moved by his reaction to the situation. She shared her admiration for the resilience she witnessed from Curtis and discussed a day of reminiscing and talking positively about the future.
Conor McGregor also extended his support and prayers to fellow Irish MMA fighter Ryan Curtis following the news of his life-altering injury. He shared heartfelt words on Instagram, mentioning that people sometimes forget the risks fighters take to compete in the cage. He thanked God for Curtis’ family and wished him a speedy recovery.
Furthermore, McGregor went beyond posting messages of support for Curtis. The Irishman donated £25,000 of his own money and shared the GoFundMe link on Curtis’ page, encouraging his fans to also help out the fighter and his family.
