During NBA Media Day, Milwaukee Bucks fans were treated to a preview of the team’s formidable lineup for the upcoming regular season, with Damian Lillard sporting his new jersey alongside teammates Giannis Antetokounmpo, Khris Middleton, and Brook Lopez. As the big four of the Bucks, expectations are high for this impressive roster. Interestingly, Lillard had an exciting experience before officially joining the Bucks, which involved being pranked by Raptors’ OG Anunoby.
In an interview with Bleacher Report’s Chris Haynes, Lillard recounted the humorous prank played on him by Anunoby. Having trained together during the summer, Anunoby decided to text Lillard, welcoming him to Toronto as if he had just been acquired by the Raptors. Initially uncertain whether the message was a joke or not, Lillard decided to call Anunoby to clarify the situation.
Lillard shared the conversation with Haynes, saying, “I was on the phone and I just got a random text from OG [Anunoby], ‘Welcome to Toronto.'” Aware of Anunoby’s penchant for joking around, Lillard continued, “He always likes messing around, joking and stuff like that, we trained together in the summer a little bit. He texted me, ‘Welcome to Toronto,’ so I was like, ‘Let me call this dude and see.'”
However, Anunoby did not answer Lillard’s call, leaving the latter to ponder whether he was indeed joining the Raptors or remaining with the Bucks. As history would have it, Lillard ultimately joined the Milwaukee Bucks, and fans can only imagine the possibilities had things turned out differently with the prank’s context.
