The LA Lakers front office, led by Rob Pelinka, has had a successful offseason, making key additions to their roster alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis. They have managed to address most of their needs, adding size and shooting at every position, while staying under the luxury tax bill.
New signings and contracts
A few notable signings include Gabe Vincent, who is an upgrade over Dennis Schroder, signing a $33 million three-year deal. Taurean Prince arrived on a team-friendly one-year $4.5 million contract. Jaxson Hayes and Cam Reddish were also signed on minimum contracts. In addition, the Lakers retained their best free agents, including Austin Reaves on a four-year, $58 million deal, Rui Hachimura on a three-year, $51 million contract, and D’Angelo Russell with a two-year, $36 million deal.
Draft picks and roster improvement
The Lakers were also successful in acquiring their draft targets, Jalen Hood-Schifino and Maxwell Lewis, with their 17th and 40th selections in the NBA draft. These acquisitions have contributed to a roster improvement, with the front office managing to stay $2.5 million under the luxury tax bill. The team’s recent moves have demonstrated a strategic focus on building a championship-contending roster, while remaining financially responsible.
