American tennis player Reilly Opelka has expressed awe at Carlos Alcaraz’s performance, claiming that the Spaniard is unbeatable and “up there” with renowned players such as Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. In a Tennis Channel podcast interview, Opelka discussed various topics and praised his American compatriots, especially Taylor Fritz. However, he acknowledged the tough competition from rising stars like Carlos Alcaraz and Holger Rune.
Opelka’s Opinions on Alcaraz and Fritz
Opelka shared his thoughts on Fritz and Alcaraz on the Inside In podcast, asserting that Fritz could not outperform Alcaraz. He stated, “I don’t think we’ll ever get a guy to beat Alcaraz.” He then mentioned Fritz’s quarterfinal match against Alcaraz at the Miami Open earlier this year, where the Spaniard emerged victorious in straight sets. Opelka concluded, “As great as a ball striker as Fritz is, Alcaraz is so fast. Tennis wise, he is up there with Novak and Rafa.”
Carlos Alcaraz’s Recent Titles
Carlos Alcaraz has gained considerable momentum in 2023, clinching four titles so far. After winning his first title of the year at the Argentina Open, he triumphed over world No. 3 Daniil Medvedev at the Indian Wells tournament, bringing home the trophy. Alcaraz continued his impressive performance, defeating Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Stefanos Tsitsipas at the Barcelona Open to secure another victory. The young player then went on to win his fourth title of the season at the Madrid Open.
