Andrey Rublev Overcomes Felix Auger-Aliassime in Madrid Open Final: Secures Second Masters 1000 Career Title

Andrey Rublev secured his second Masters 1000 title on Sunday with a victory over Felix Auger-Aliassime in the final of the 2024 Madrid Open.

In the first set, Auger-Aliassime broke Rublev’s serve early, taking a 2-0 lead and later extending it to 4-1. Rublev managed to reclaim one break, but the Canadian claimed the set 6-4. The second set was tighter, but Rublev eventually took it 7-5. The deciding set saw both players holding their serve until Rublev won 7-5, earning his second Masters 1000 title after his 2023 Monte-Carlo Masters victory against Holger Rune.

On his way to the final, Auger-Aliassime defeated Casper Ruud, Adrian Mannarino, and Daniil Medvedev (who retired due to injury). Rublev reached the final by overcoming Carlos Alcaraz and Taylor Fritz. Both Rublev and Auger-Aliassime are set to compete in the Italian Open, alongside Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Holger Rune. However, World No. 2 Jannik Sinner and World No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz will not be participating due to injuries.

Last year, Auger-Aliassime made it to the second round of the Italian Open, while Rublev reached the fourth. Following the Italian Open, both players, along with the rest of the tour, will head to Paris for the French Open. In last year’s Grand Slam, Rublev lost to Lorenzo Sonego in the third round, and Auger-Aliassime was defeated by Fabio Fognini in the first round.
