Russian tennis player Aslan Karatsev has revealed that tennis legend Andy Murray played a significant role in helping him overcome troubles with his back. Karatsev had missed two significant tournaments in the United States of America and skipped the Dubai event this season due to an injury. However, Murray’s advice and recommendation of specialist doctors have allowed Karatsev to return to action and make his mark in recent competitions.
Karatsev’s Return to Action
Since seeking help from Murray, Karatsev has put in impressive performances, winning three matches in Madrid’s Spanish capital to reach the semifinals as a qualifier. He then qualified for the main draw of the French Open, where he is set to face Alexei Popyrin on May 29th. These notable performances have come after disappointing losses in the San Remo Challenger and Casablanca.
Seeking Help from Andy Murray
Karatsev divulged that after talking to Murray for a long time about his back pain, the British tennis star gave him the contact details of his specialist doctors in London. “I am really very grateful to him. I owe him a lot, to him and to the doctors,” Karatsev shared. Murray’s assistance has allowed the Russian player to recover from his injury and regain form in various competitions.
Andy Murray’s Withdrawal from French Open
In other news, Murray has decided to withdraw from the 2023 French Open to prioritize the grass-court schedule, including the Wimbledon Championships. After winning the Provence Challenger, Murray experienced early exits in the Italian Open and the ATP Challenger event in Bordeaux. Murray expressed his doubts about participating in the Roland Garros, explaining, “I trust my body now, but I’m aware that my best chance of having a deep run is more likely to happen at Wimbledon.” His withdrawal was confirmed on May 21st when his name was removed from the tournament’s entry list.
