Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have taken the tennis world by storm, with their exceptional talent causing Chris Evert’s ex-husband John Lloyd to sing their praises. Lloyd believes that no player on the ATP Tour can challenge the duo when they are performing at their best. Both Alcaraz and Sinner have shown great potential in tennis, with the former winning two Major titles since turning pro in 2020 and the latter finally gaining recognition with his recent victory at the Australian Open.
The young players have already managed to defeat top-ranked Novak Djokovic at the Majors, an impressive feat that very few active players have accomplished in the past several years. Speaking on the Tennis Channel Inside-In podcast, Lloyd heaped praise on both athletes, stating that the rest of the men’s tennis circuit will need to “step up” in order to prevent the World No. 2 and World No. 3 from dominating the ATP Tour in the future. Lloyd further noted that the pair are nearly unbeatable when at their best.
During the conversation, Lloyd also discussed Jannik Sinner’s substantial growth over recent months. The 69-year-old stated that the Italian’s potential appeared to be greater than that of Carlos Alcaraz, given the latter’s subpar results at the end of last season. However, after the two locked horns at the Indian Wells Masters earlier this month, Lloyd’s faith in the Spaniard was restored. He specifically praised the 20-year-old’s tennis IQ, which ultimately led to his victory over Sinner, snapping the Italian’s 19-match unbeaten streak in 2024.
