Daniil Medvedev: On-Court Tennis Warrior Versus Calmer Off-Court Personality

Daniil Medvedev is known for displaying his emotions openly on the tennis court, leading to a few confrontations over the years. However, the Russian tennis player claims that he is a completely different person off the court. In a recent interview with Sports Express, Medvedev shared that the competitive nature of tennis tends to bring out his outspoken side, while he is much calmer off-court, where there is no competition.

Having stated that he tries to stay focused on himself, Medvedev further explained the contrast between his on-court and off-court behavior: “I’m two completely different people on the court and in life. Because I don’t have a competitive aspect in life, I don’t compete with anyone, and I have no desire to do so.” He also mentioned that he tries not to indulge in jealousy or negative talk behind anyone’s back. However, his concentration gets affected when sharing the court with another player in a competitive setting, making him a different person.

Speaking about his personal growth, Medvedev reflected on his journey and credited working with a psychologist, a good coaching team, and his experiences of wins and losses for helping him become more composed. The Russian tennis star has learned not to take victories or losses too seriously, understanding that life doesn’t revolve solely around tennis. Although it is an important aspect of his life, he focuses on playing better without dwelling too much on match outcomes. Medvedev will kick off his Monte-Carlo Masters campaign with a second-round match against either Jordan Thompson or Gael Monfils.
