Daniil Medvedev Reflects on Past Struggles Before Monte-Carlo Masters 3R Match Against Karen Khachanov

Daniil Medvedev reminisced about his past matches with fellow Russian Karen Khachanov when they were both younger. They are scheduled to compete against each other in the third round of the Monte-Carlo Masters. Medvedev began the tournament in the second round after receiving a first-round bye and defeated Gael Monfils. Meanwhile, Khachanov has beaten Cameron Norrie and Francisco Cerundolo.

After winning against Monfils, Medvedev shared his memories of playing Khachanov when they were between nine and ten years old, noting that he used to dislike competing against him. He admitted that Khachanov was a better player at the time, and Medvedev would often lose his temper during their matches, resulting in code violations.

Medvedev and Khachanov have faced each other six times on the ATP Tour, with Medvedev leading 5-1 in their head-to-head record. Khachanov’s sole win against the former world No. 1 was at the 2018 Kremlin Cup semifinals. Their most recent showdown occurred at the 2023 Erste Bank Open in Vienna, where Medvedev emerged victorious. As of this season, Medvedev has won 19 out of 23 matches, while Khachanov has a 14-6 record.
