Daniil Medvedev humorously reacted to his long-time coach Giles Cervara playfully covering a camera with a marker during the Madrid Open. Medvedev and Cervara have enjoyed a successful partnership, with the Russian player winning 19 titles, including the ATP Masters 1000 and the 2021 US Open, since they started working together in 2017. Medvedev even reached the World No. 1 ranking in early 2022 under Cervara’s guidance.
In a post by the Tennis Channel on social media, Cervara was seen sitting on a court while a camera tried to capture his expression. He then decided to cross out the camera with a marker, prompting Medvedev’s lighthearted reaction with a “grinning face with smiling eyes” emoji.
Currently, Medvedev is competing in the Madrid Open, where he has progressed to the quarter-finals after defeating Alexander Bublik. If things go according to plan, he’ll face 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal in an upcoming match. This will be the first time the two potentially meet on red clay—an admitted weakness for Medvedev, who has previously expressed his dislike for playing on it. Nadal currently leads their head-to-head record 5-1.
