Emma Raducanu achieved one of her most significant victories in the 2024 season, defeating Caroline Garcia at the 2024 Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers. Oddly enough, the British tennis player became so excited about her win that she prematurely celebrated by shaking hands with Garcia before securing the required six games in the final set.
In the match’s opening set, Garcia took the lead by winning 6-3 on the clay court in Le Portel, France. However, Raducanu made a stunning comeback, winning the next two sets with 6-3, 6-2 scores. She mistakenly celebrated early in the final set when the score was 4-1, after completing an ace down the middle. Realizing her error, Raducanu returned to the baseline with a sheepish grin. Thankfully, she officially won the match a few minutes later. During her on-court interview, Raducanu admitted that the premature celebration was embarrassing and caused by her intense focus during the game, leading her to forget the scoreline.
The 21-year-old also commented on her victory over Caroline Garcia. She felt like an underdog competing against the French player in her home country. Raducanu highlighted her determination and significant effort as she fought against Garcia, eventually leveling the score at 1-1 in the tie. She expressed her delight in contributing to Great Britain’s success in the event.
Before the Billie Jean King Cup, Raducanu had reached the Round of 32 at Indian Wells, where she was defeated by Aryna Sabalenka. However, she had to withdraw from the following Miami Open due to a lower back injury.
