Excited Bianca Andreescu Nears WTA Tour Comeback Following Impressive Training Session

Canadian tennis sensation Bianca Andreescu is hinting at a potential comeback on the WTA tour after recovering from injuries. Andreescu was the highest-ranked Canadian in WTA history, reaching World No. 4 in the 2019 season.

During her breakthrough 2019 season, Andreescu won all three of her career titles, including the BNP Paribas Open and the Canadian Open, both part of the WTA 1000 series on the tour. Her most significant achievement was defeating Serena Williams to win the US Open, making her the first teenager to win a Grand Slam since Maria Sharapova in 2006.

However, injuries have plagued Andreescu’s career, with a chronic knee injury preventing her from defending her titles in 2020. Additionally, she contracted COVID-19 in 2021, causing her to miss an extended period. Recently, she posted on X (formerly Twitter) that she feels at her best and is excited about her comeback on the court, as she is pleased with her training session results.

“Training has been amazingggg, can’t wait to compete,” Andreescu posted.

The French Open remains her primary focus as she attempts a comeback, with Andreescu expressing her desire to return to the tour a week before the Roland Garros event during a Q&A session with fans on social media. “Week before the French Open!! Miss you all so much, can’t wait,” answered Andreescu when asked about her possible return (via tennis 365.com).

Andreescu’s best result at the French Open was her third-round appearance last year, where she lost to Lesia Tsurenko. However, she partnered with Kiwi Michael Venus in doubles, making it to the finals where they fell short. According to Tennis-Infinity.com, Andreescu also has aspirations to participate in the Paris Olympics. The Canadian, who has not yet played in the prestigious tournament, is eager to represent her country on the global stage. However, her current ranking of 220 does not meet the Olympic qualification criteria, and she may use a wildcard provision.
