Rafael Nadal will not receive any special treatment at this year’s French Open, regardless of the fact that it may be his last appearance at the tournament, according to director Amelie Mauresmo. Nadal, currently ranked 512th in the world, started his clay season at the Barcelona Open and is competing at the Madrid Open this week. He is set to participate in the Italian Open before potentially making his final appearance at Roland Garros in Paris. Despite his storied career and status in the sport, Mauresmo stated that Nadal will be treated like any other unseeded player at the event. She acknowledged that past Wimbledon tournaments had granted preferential treatment to star players but confirmed that this will not happen with Nadal this season in Paris.
Additionally, Mauresmo expressed that she and the tennis community would be closely following Nadal’s matches with anticipation and hope. The tennis star himself is unsure if he will be able to play at the French Open due to his current physical condition. While he plans to do everything possible to participate in the tournament, Nadal said that he would not play in Paris if he didn’t feel physically ready for the competition. He also pointed out that there are other major events, such as the Olympic Games, that he looks forward to competing in.
