Grigor Dimitrov recently opened up about the shocking incident that occurred during the 2023 Barcelona Open when his $76,000 watch was stolen. The Bulgarian tennis player was returning to his car after a practice session when the theft took place.
In a video for ATP Tour social media channels, Dimitrov responded to questions from fellow players, including Novak Djokovic and Alexander Bublik. When Tommy Paul asked about the watch theft, Dimitrov sarcastically thanked him and recounted the events. Dimitrov explained that a motorcyclist had clipped his car’s rear-view mirror, and as he reached out to fix the mirror, another person grabbed his hand to take the watch. He tried to fight back, but the thief cut the watch away and fled. Fortunately, Dimitrov was not injured in the incident, and he even showed off his new watch to the camera.
A similar situation occurred with Sebastian Korda, who was robbed of his €300,000 watch ahead of the 2024 Monte-Carlo Masters. Luckily, he was also unharmed in the incident.
Grigor Dimitrov did not participate in this year’s Barcelona Open, despite performing well early in the season. Currently ranked World No. 10, Dimitrov has his sights set on the upcoming 2024 Madrid Open.
