Nikoloz Basilashvili, a Georgian professional tennis player known for his competitiveness on the ATP tour, has been struggling with injuries and personal issues that have affected his performance on the court. In a recent update on social media, Basilashvili revealed that he has been dealing with an elbow injury for the past three to four years, which has hindered his capability to play. The pain has become so severe that he has resorted to drinking painkillers without any success, stating that playing tennis is no longer enjoyable for him. As a result, he is searching for a solution to help him regain his form.
Troubles off the court
Basilashvili has also faced stress in his personal life, as his ex-wife, Neli Dorokashvili, accused him of physical and verbal abuse. She reported that he controlled her finances and social media activity and limited her professional opportunities. Although a Georgian court acquitted Basilashvili of all charges, the legal battle has taken a toll on his mental health.
Elbow injury affects performance
The elbow injury Basilashvili has been dealing with has greatly impacted his performance on the court. He shared that he has been able to play at only 50% of his capabilities due to the injury, forcing him to take painkillers every week and struggle to find new solutions to manage the pain. Despite the challenges, Basilashvili remains determined to find a solution and overcome his difficulties.
Decline in rankings
Nikoloz Basilashvili has fallen out of the top 150 players as he struggles to find form in 2023. He currently ranks World No. 173 and has won just one main draw match during the 2023 season. This drop in performance is surprising, as Basilashvili was once ranked as high as World No. 16 and reached the final of the 2021 Indian Wells Open.
