Novak Djokovic entertained fans during his practice session ahead of the French Open 2023, by humorously imitating his coach Goran Ivanisevic. Djokovic and his team practiced on Court Philippe Chatrier, where the two-time French Open champion was greeted with cheers by numerous fans. The Serbian player has gained a reputation for mimicking his colleagues, having previously caricatured Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Maria Sharapova, and Daniil Medvedev.
Novak Djokovic’s impressive partnership with Goran Ivanisevic
The 22-time Grand Slam winner brought Goran Ivanisevic onto his team in June 2019. Their partnership quickly began showing results as Djokovic won his first Grand Slam title under the Croatian’s mentorship at Wimbledon just weeks after they teamed up. Since joining forces with the former World No. 2, Djokovic has triumphed in seven Grand Slam titles, with the most recent being at the 2023 Australian Open. The pair will now look to achieve another Grand Slam victory at the 2023 French Open.
Breaking records at French Open 2023
Djokovic is also aiming to make history as the first male player to secure 23 Grand Slam titles and tie with Serena Williams for the most Major wins in the Open era. Although his recent performance on clay has been underwhelming, Djokovic expressed confidence in his chances at the 2023 French Open, citing the best-of-five sets format at Roland Garros as potentially helpful.
New competition and French Open 2023
However, Djokovic acknowledged the threat posed by younger players like Carlos Alcaraz and Holger Rune, who have been in formidable form lately. The Serbian player remains determined to compete with this new generation of athletes, stating, “I’m personally still trying to hang in there with all of them. I still have the hunger to keep going. Let’s see how far I’m going to play.” Djokovic, who was the World No. 1 before the recent Italian Open, has slipped to the same half of the 2023 French Open as World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz.
