In a recent skit on The Daily Show, Patrick McEnroe, brother of tennis legend John McEnroe, and comedian Michael Kosta mocked the sport of pickleball. Kosta acted as the host for the sketch, with Patrick McEnroe being the guest.
Kosta began the discussion on pickleball, which is currently the fastest-growing racquet sport in the United States. Throughout the skit, Patrick McEnroe expressed his annoyance at how pickleball courts are gradually taking over tennis courts in the US and Canada. He also urged the sport to stay away from existing tennis facilities.
The segment continued with Kosta humorously comparing tennis balls to pickleball balls. While tennis balls were said to smell like fine wine, pickleball balls were jokingly compared to “an old guy’s ba*ls*ck.”
The comedic jab comes after former American No. 1 tennis player Jack Sock moved on from his professional tennis career to become a full-time pickleball player on the Carvana PPA Tour. Sock is currently ranked 13th in the world on the tour. Even John McEnroe had teased Sock about his transition from tennis to pickleball in a video from a previous event.
