Andy Roddick recently discussed the potential for a Rafael Nadal-Novak Djokovic face-off in the first round of the French Open 2024. The championship has only been won by Nadal and Djokovic since 2016, with the Spaniard claiming victory five times.
Both athletes have started their European clay campaigns, with Djokovic reaching the semi-finals of the Monte-Carlo Masters and Nadal participating in two matches at the Barcelona Open. On a recent episode of the Served with Andy Roddick podcast, Roddick expressed hope for an injury-free Nadal performance in Paris, stating, “Any injury from here on out could be the last injury.”
Roddick also suggested a potential clash between Nadal and Djokovic, as Nadal would go into the tournament unseeded. If this happens, it will be their 60th meeting on the court, with Djokovic currently leading the head-to-head 30-29.
Nadal and Djokovic have faced each other ten times between 2006 and 2022 in the French Open, with Nadal holding a strong 8-2 head-to-head lead over Djokovic. They have played each other in the Roland Garros final three times in 2012, 2014, and 2020, with Nadal winning each time.
