Roger Federer, often considered the most elegant tennis player ever, recently retired at the 2022 Laver Cup after a 24-year-long professional career. Serena Williams’ childhood coach, Rick Macci, has praised Federer as one of the best movers in the history of the sport, despite trailing behind Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in the majors race. Macci recently shared a video on social media where he analyzed the technical aspects of Federer’s game, calling it “poetry in motion.”
Macci on Federer’s Movement
In his video, Macci highlighted the fluid and almost effortless movement of Federer on the court. “He’s like going on eggshells and floating around the court,” he stated. Macci went on to explain that movement was the wildcard that set Federer apart from other players. The coach firmly believed that without Federer’s flawless movement, the Swiss maestro would not have become one of the best players in tennis history.
Federer’s Serving and Technique
Macci also praised Federer’s technical skills, specifically mentioning his amazing forehand technique, one of the best backhand slices of all time, and his biomechanically perfect serve. According to Macci, these skills combined with Federer’s unique movement made him stand out as a top athlete in the sport. “If you can move and you’re set, you can do these amazing strokes and one of the best movers of all time was the great Roger Federer,” Macci added.
Roger Federer Day at Halle Open
