Professional tennis player Sebastian Korda recently expressed his excitement on social media after learning that his sister, professional golfer Jessica Korda, has joined him and their sister Nelly as a brand ambassador for Richard Mille. The Korda siblings have a strong sporting background, with their father, Petr Korda, holding a career-high ranking of No. 2 in professional tennis back in February 1998.
Sisters as professional golfers on the LGPA tour
The Korda family is known for their athletic talents, especially in the world of golf. Nelly Korda, aged 24, and Jessica Korda, aged 30, are both professional golfers on the LGPA tour. In 2022, Sebastian Korda joined his sister Nelly in representing the Swiss luxury watch company Richard Mille, and recently, Jessica has joined her siblings as an ambassador as well. Sebastian shared Richard Mille’s story welcoming Jessica to the team on his Instagram story, adding heart and heart-eye emoticons to express his joy.
Sebastian Korda’s strong performance in the 2023 Australian Open
Sebastian Korda’s recent performance at the 2023 Australian Open marked his best showing yet in a major event. The young American tennis player reached the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career. Unfortunately, a wrist injury forced him to cut his dream run short, withdrawing from the match and handing the win to Karen Khachanov.
Korda’s switch from ice hockey to tennis
In a post-match conference, Korda revealed that he used to play ice hockey until he was 10 years old before starting to play tennis. The 2009 US Open proved to be a pivotal moment for his tennis career, as he attended the tournament with his father, Petr Korda, and his current head coach, Radek Stepanek. Witnessing Stepanek face off against Novak Djokovic in the fourth round at the Arthur Ashe Stadium inspired Korda to pursue a career in tennis instead of ice hockey. As he looks forward to the upcoming clay-court season, Korda hopes to make a strong comeback on the tour after his injury setback.
