Serena Williams Reacts to French Open 2018 Catsuit Controversy: Surprised by the Stir

Serena Williams has stated that she did not anticipate the controversy sparked by her catsuit at the 2018 French Open. During her first appearance at a Grand Slam after giving birth to her daughter Olympia, Williams defeated Kristyna Pliskova wearing a midnight-black bodysuit with a red waistband. She said the catsuit made her feel like a warrior and a superhero, but it was deemed disrespectful by the French Open and was subsequently banned, resulting in an uproar.

In a recent interview with CNN, Williams expressed surprise at the impact of her outfit, explaining that she was simply trying to be healthy and herself after becoming a mom. The controversial outfit was criticized by Bernard Giudicelli, the French Tennis Federation President, in a 2018 interview with France’s Tennis Magazine, which led to accusations that Williams was being targeted for her race.

Williams also revealed that her daughter was amazed to hear about her mother’s 2017 Australian Open win while pregnant with Olympia. Since that victory, Williams has made it to four more Grand Slam finals but has yet to achieve another win.
