Shelby Rogers shares her perfect life moment: John Slavik’s proposal before Charleston Open

Professional tennis player Shelby Rogers recently shared details about her surprise engagement to long-time boyfriend John Slavik. Rogers, who is competing in the 2023 Charleston Open, revealed that Slavik proposed to her during a sunset by the water at the Battery in Charleston.

Surprise Proposal at the Battery

Rogers described the engagement as the “most perfect moment” of her life. According to her, everyone except her knew about Slavik’s plan. With a smile, she said, “He did an amazing job. Everybody was in on it except me.” The couple reportedly started dating in 2020 after a blind date arranged by mutual friends. Rogers announced her engagement to Slavik, an American ice hockey player, on social media on April 1.

Winning her First Round Match at Charleston

After winning her first round match at the Charleston Open against compatriot Danielle Collins, Rogers spoke highly of her opponent, calling her “aggressive” and “feisty.” Despite a slow start, she managed to regain her momentum, saying, “I wanted to serve just a little bit better as the match went on, that kind of let me down early but thankfully I was able to turn it around and play a little more aggressive.”

Advancing to the Third Round

Shelby Rogers has since advanced to the third round in Charleston. In the second round, she faced fellow American Caty McNally and made a comeback from a set down to win 6-7 (4), 7-5, 6-1. With her performance in the Charleston Open, Rogers continues her successful career while enjoying her recent engagement to Slavik.
