Notable journalist Ben Rothenberg has called out the Tennis Channel for its delayed coverage of Tommy Paul and Francisco Cerundolo’s second-round match at the 2024 Madrid Open. This follows Rothenberg’s criticism of the network’s coverage just over a month ago during Naomi Osaka’s match against Elina Svitolina at the Miami Open on March 24.
Rothenberg responded to a former Twitter user who had posted about their disappointment with the delayed broadcast of the Paul-Cerundolo match and subsequently canceled their subscription renewal for the Tennis Channel. This post also featured Rothenberg’s criticism from March of the network’s delayed coverage of Osaka’s match.
In response to the user’s post, Rothenberg criticized the Tennis Channel for monopolizing the tennis tour and letting their quality suffer as a result. This is not the first time Rothenberg has taken issue with the network, as he had previously pointed out a three-minute delay in the channel’s coverage of the 2023 French Open on June 8, 2023.
These delays have been particularly frustrating for American tennis fans, who have been required to purchase additional Tennis Channel subscriptions due to the exclusive broadcast rights the network holds for certain matches.
