WWE had to vacate titles again this week on SmackDown after Liv Morgan was injured while defending the Women’s Tag Team Title. The company appeared to be stalling their decision to remove the titles from the champions, indicating that the injury was not too serious. However, things have since changed, and WWE vacated the Women’s Tag Team Championship from Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez.
Injury and Vacating the Title
It is unclear what changed WWE’s mind or whether Morgan’s injury was worse than first thought. Regardless, the company didn’t stand idle and announced that Raquel Rodriguez must find a new partner in two weeks. Rodriguez will compete in a Fatal Four Way Tag Team Match featuring Shayna Baszler & Ronda Rousey, Sonya Deville & Chelsea Green, and Bayley & IYO SKY at RAW after Night of Champions. The winners of the match will be crowned the new Women’s Tag Team Champions.
Previous Instances and Fans’ Reaction
Unfortunately, this is not the first time the titles had to be vacated. Just last year, Naomi and Sasha Banks walked out of RAW, abandoning the titles. Aliyah and Raquel Rodriguez then won the vacated championship in the finals of an eight-team tournament. Fans feel that the titles being vacated again so soon after the last time is a sign that they are cursed.
Fans’ Stance on Ronda Rousey
As for the upcoming match, fans mainly focus on one superstar not winning it: Ronda Rousey. They made it clear that they would be okay with anything except Ronda Rousey winning the Women’s Tag Team Championship. Only time will determine if the WWE listened to their fans and had other plans for the match.
Ronda Rousey returned to WWE RAW this week and attacked Raquel Rodriguez following Rodriguez’s match against Chelsea Green, with Shayna Baszler by her side. Rousey was absent from television due to a dislocated elbow injury sustained on SmackDown ahead of WrestleMania 39. Upon her return, she immediately made it clear that she was going after the Women’s Tag Team Titles. Now, with a championship match scheduled, it remains to be seen if Rousey can come out victorious.
