Gunther, an Intercontinental Champion in WWE history, is set to defend his title at WrestleMania. In a recent interview with BTSport, he made a bold prediction for next year’s Show of Shows. The 35-year-old will defend his championship in a Triple Threat Match against Drew McIntyre and Sheamus this weekend, and he is not happy about Adam Pearce’s decision, as he questioned him during the last episode of WWE SmackDown.
Bold prediction for WrestleMania 40
In his conversation with Ariel Helwani on BTSport, Gunther discussed the Triple Threat Match and potential matches with Cody Rhodes and Brock Lesnar. When asked about his position at WrestleMania 40, the current Intercontinental Champion confidently responded with “The main event. That’s a prediction.” As to whether he sees himself in the World Heavyweight Championship match, Gunther stated, “We shall see. I don’t plan on losing this one and I want to make it the most important thing there is.”
On facing other wrestlers at WrestleMania 40
Helwani asked Gunther about who he would want to face in the main event of WrestleMania 40, and the Imperium leader replied that he would leave it up to everyone else to decide. The Austrian star seems ready and eager to accept any challenge thrown at him.
Potential match with Brock Lesnar
The Ring General and The Beast Incarnate had an encounter during this year’s Royal Rumble match, but they did not get a chance to fight each other. Fans are nevertheless excited about this prospect. In the interview, Gunther expressed his desire for a match against Lesnar, but also mentioned his relief that it isn’t happening now because he’s unsure whether they would live up to audience expectations. Regardless of whether the match with Lesnar takes place soon, the Intercontinental Champion has a full plate this weekend, and he could lose his title without even being pinned.
As WrestleMania 40 approaches, it remains to be seen if Gunther’s prediction of being in the main event will come true. Do you think The Ring General will achieve this goal? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
