Reasons for WWE Canceling Karrion Kross vs Roman Reigns Match upon Return

Karrion Kross vs. Roman Reigns is a highly anticipated match for many wrestling fans, especially after Kross’s return to WWE last year, alongside his wife Scarlett. It appears that this title bout was nearly brought to fruition. While Kross and Scarlett were initially released from WWE in November 2021, they were later rehired by Triple H after taking over the creative. At the time of his return, Roman and Drew McIntyre were engaged in their feud for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship, leading up to Clash at the Castle.

Kross makes a powerful return and teases feud

Upon his return, Kross attacked Drew McIntyre and made sure The Tribal Chief was aware of his presence. However, the WWE had other plans, with Clash at the Castle still featuring Roman and Drew as the main event. According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Karrion Kross vs. Roman Reigns did not happen because WWE wanted Drew for the Cardiff event.

Unrealized match and Kross’s subsequent feuds

As of this writing, Karrion Kross vs. Roman Reigns has still not taken place. After Clash at the Castle, Kross went on to feud with Drew McIntyre, followed by a conflict with Rey Mysterio. Meanwhile, a feud with Shinsuke Nakamura was also recently hinted at, but the Japanese star was ultimately drafted to RAW while Karrion and Scarlett remained on SmackDown.

WWE’s initial plans for Kross vs. Reigns

Although Karrion Kross has not been involved in an angle with Roman Reigns since his return, WWE had big plans for the former NXT Champion. It had been reported by Fightful Select that there was interest in inserting Karrion into McIntyre and Reigns’ feud, and a pitch was even made for The Herald of Doomsday to be included in a program with Roman for his world titles. Despite not being involved with The Tribal Chief recently, Kross has not lost sight of the champion and has expressed interest in ending Reigns’ title run.
